Tağiyev

Synopsis

Haji Zeynelabidin Taghiyev, an Azerbaijani Turk, was among the world's leading millionaires. Orphaned at a young age and growing up in poverty, Taghiyev hadn’t even learned to read or write. However, he showed his dedication to education by providing scholarships to many Turkish youths. He established schools and orphanages and was known as the 'Father of the People' for his philanthropic work. He shared the wealth he earned from the oil industry with his homeland. After the Soviet occupation, all his assets were confiscated. Nearly a century after his death, Taghiyev's traces can still be found in many places, from Baku to St. Petersburg, and from Istanbul to Kars. Supported by the views of expert historians, artists, and intellectuals, this documentary film will allow us to explore Taghiyev’s life, the era he lived in, and the regions he influenced.
